Sourdough has been one of the most humbling, grounding, and oddly healing things I’ve invited into my kitchen.
I didn’t come to sourdough because I had it all figured out. I came to it because I wanted slower food, better digestion, and something that felt more connected to the way food was made long before convenience ruled everything. What I didn’t realize was how much sourdough would mirror my own life: messy, unpredictable, deeply intuitive, and very much a work in progress.
There have been loaves that were flat. Dough that over-fermented while I slept. Starters that smelled questionable and made me question myself instead. I’ve Googled, texted friends, poked dough too many times, and absolutely considered throwing the whole thing away more than once.
But I didn’t.
Because every time I slow down and actually pay attention, sourdough teaches me something. About patience. About timing. About listening instead of forcing. Some days it wants warmth, some days it wants rest, and some days it just wants to be left alone. Honestly? Same.
I’m still learning. I’m still adjusting hydration, fermentation times, temperatures, and expectations. I still celebrate a good crust like I won something. And I still remind myself that sourdough, just like motherhood, wellness, faith, and becoming, isn’t about perfection.
It’s about showing up.
So if your loaf isn’t Instagram-perfect… welcome. If your dough feels too sticky, too stiff, or just not right… you’re not doing it wrong. You’re learning.
This is me, in process. Flour on the counter, patience growing slowly, and trusting that with time, care, and a little grace, good things rise.
This is the bundle that I purchased as my starter sourdough kit. In the future, once I know that I am going to continue this sourdough journey, I will invest in a better set up, included below. I love kitchen gadgets like my mama, but my husband likes organization at home, soooo I have to be fully committed.
